Synopsis: [From an advert, originally published by Movie Maker magazine, dated September 1979]
Filmed in the dangerous waters of the Yucatan, TINTORERA is an adventure thriller of riveting suspense. A tiny sun drenched island is frozen with fear as first one beautiful woman and then another is literally ripped away by a murderous, rampaging beast of the sea. More and more victims fall prey to the Tintorera until one man, enraged by his loss, pits his cunning against the monstrous killer. With special effects even more horrendous than JAWS, this film makes an exciting addition to the Iver Collection.
This rare Super 8mm release by Iver Film Services was Tintorera's only outing by the company. The film was soon to be re-issued by VCL, following a successful distribution deal with the Hemdale Film Group, which was struck in August 1981.
Filming took place between 3rd July and 15th September 1976, consisting of just 75 days.
The following trailer (as imported from youtube) provides a glimpse of Rene Cardona's ever-popular TINTORERA, which provides ample thrills and grizzly spills. Featuring some startling underwater cinematography, by the award winning Ramon Bravo, Tintorera was bound to raise eyebrows. Enjoy!
